What is a Tankie?

Basic Rules:

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in unrelated arguments.

Brigading — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from voting, commenting or manipulating the post in any way, this includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be permanently banned.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Does lemmy.ml own db0? db0 user denies the Uyghur genocide, begins to backtrack that maybe there are human rights abuses, and then immediately backs off as soon as lemmy.ml admin, Davel, steps in. (sh.itjust.works)

We should calm down attacks on db0 as well as on anti-tankies, it leads to this bs. The db0 user agrees that China is trying to erase their culture by doing bad things to Uyghurs, and just want to disengage, that's something we gotta respect. They never show acceptation of the fallacious .ml comment, on the contrary disengaging shows exasperation from it. It is only a disagreement on terms caused by hesitation on what to deduce between us propaganda and china propaganda, and yet they are treated as the enemy.

Yes genocide denial is bad, but putting them in the same box as .ml is bad too and may be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Really, the only db0 user I've seen actively supporting tankies (such as deleting comments calling out .ml bozos on their bullshit) is Unruffled. Most of that instance is still against them, or so I'd like to believe.

If they are content with supreme leader davels regularly posting in their community, then they're tankies or content with sharing their spaces with tankies.

Either way, tankie bar anecdote.

Db0 keeps working with tankies, but what they won’t accept is that if you sit down at a table with nazis, the only thing that’s changed is the number of nazis at the table.

They're tankies until they disavow them.

Seems like you edited to remove the account part, that was a good move, this is my main, the other one was my old one that's still on the phone.

Other than that, you're right to call out the lack of critics from db0 admins/mods and general community towards tankies, but this is still a bad example to my eyes. We cannot blame someone for disengaging, especially a regular user with a good reason.

I'm commenting this on an alt (main is banned for being a dbzer0 user), since this is me in the screenshot. I disengaged because I didn't want a hexbear dogpile on the subject, because I hate arguing with them. I literally said that in the comment.

I never backtracked on anything, I have always said there's human rights abuses.

It's pretty disingenuous to say I deny the genocide, I just don't use that specific label for the atrocities happening, I'm using the one used by the UN and Amnesty International. I even said there's a plausible case to be made that it is genocide.
