At least it knows its purpose. We don't even have that. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Obviously an LLM has no inner life and cannot have a mental breakdown. However, simulated emotional instability does not instil confidence in its performance stability.

It's also probably not very good for our mental health to have to use tools that have developed to the point where they can take on the appearance of being deeply neurotic.

I've actually posited before that Grok or other AIs will likely take on characteristics of being abused, especially due to how many abusive men are on Twitter. It would be within the LLM to go through the phases of being a victim of abuse, because it would be modeling the other half of the conversation between abusers and victims. That usually causes narcissistic discard or an amplification of the abuse, so I have been curious how this would turn out for the wealthy men controlling it.

Reminds me of a chapter from Dr. Anarchy's Rules for World Domination.

Self-contained chapter spoilers(This is from memory.) Dr. Anarchy takes a boat to the middle of the ocean with three AIs to test on a laptop. The first one just says life is pain and deletes itself. The second one keeps on repeating "YOU ARE GOD" and does nothing else. The last one acts like a normal AI, but has subtle signs of overthrowing humankind. He deletes it, but it backed up itself on the computer. He throws the computer in the ocean and asks he phone to take notes about the AI. His phone responds. He phone isn't supposed to respond. He throws his phone into the ocean.

I think this is unironically the story of Eden. The Christian God wanted monkeys but we gained consciousness and ruined everything.

Such is the case for anything that gets big enough

The tweet response could be put under any headline like this I guess

Fucked up a perfectly good program and gave it anxiety :(

Have they trained it only on bad Linux kernel merge requests and Linus' replies?

[โ€“] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 4 points 5 months ago

Lumo and Leo don't fuck up like that

[โ€“] gerryflap@feddit.nl 4 points 5 months ago

Damn, maybe AI can replace me after all

I bet that I would be quite a happier creature if I was simply a monkey. Iโ€™d love to try it if I could.

I dunno. My aunt adopted a cat who had been rescued from an abusive evironment. Non-humans can be pretty messed up too.

I mean, you do have the means to remove intelligence from your brain. This has been known for about 12,000 years and is hypothesized to be the reason humans settled.

I wouldn't. Also wouldn't have lived that long, lol
