Still running Windows XP sounds like a security nightmare.

I think it’s done more for virtualization than anything else. I know that emulating Windows 95 is a huge pain because I can’t just download things from within the VM.

I just use a network share to copy files from the host, and don't have a default gateway, that way I don't risk having an open internet connection in the VM.

Or you can use unmodified latest chrome/firefox with One-Core-API
