Shout out to anyone who still remembers lemmy.org.uk, you only existed for like two days but I remember you.

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's something I didn't know about.

[–] flamingos@feddit.uk 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah, it's existence was incredibly brief near the API apocalypse. The domains isn't currently registered, so someone could grab it now. Might be cool to have it redirect to feddit.uk.

Pouring one out for lemmy.film - still get it haunting some search results.

[–] Blaze@feddit.org 2 points 2 years ago

I knew I had forgotten one!

@melroy@kbin.melroy.org @BentiGorlich@gehirneimer.de please take an appointment with a good exorcist to cleanse the repo

[–] melroy@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 2 years ago

Thanks for the advise. I should really clean up some of the local branches via git branch -d. If you don't take it anymore, try: git clean -fd. And doing a git gc --aggressive --prune=now is also not a bad idea.

RIP waveform.social too.

And I think there was a cyberpunk one... villastarlight or something?

[–] imaqtpie@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

lemmy.villa-straylight.social. That was a really cool concept for a server.

Also lemmy.beyondcombustion.net for vaporizers, I was sad to see that one go.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Ahh not the swiss one too 😭 Just as I was wondering where one was.

How could you forget feddit.de? It was one of the biggest ones

[–] Blaze@feddit.org 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Feddit.org is there as their resurrected version

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 1 points 2 years ago

Let our undying success be in memorial to those of us who came before.

[–] Martineskirt@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I'm surprised that people still remember the fmhy instance.

[–] nekothegamer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

ah vlemmy.net, the first ever lemmy instance i signed on. sad to see it go...

[–] Cheradenine@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

I don't, there was a weird bug with it that would repeatedly send thousands of activities to your instance causing federation to lag.

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 4 points 2 years ago

And was the source of endless spam - everything is much quieter since it's demise.

[–] atocci@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, it definitely had problems for a long time before it finally went down. I really liked the concept behind it though, a mix of Lemmy and Mastodon.

[–] Blaze@feddit.org 2 points 2 years ago

Mbin still exists, https://fedia.io/ runs it!

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Is there a TLD named "BTW"?

[–] Blaze@feddit.org 2 points 2 years ago

I don't think so, pretty sure they would have used that instead of FYI
