For the same reason that IS citizens moving to other countries are called expats and not migrants.

Not likely.
It would be nice. Whilst insta has mostly supplanted twitter here in Japan for biz stuff, I still don't like meta owning it. I probably will create one (but fuck twitter) just to communicate with my customers, but I'd much rather it not belong to meta at that point. It's worth noting, I do plan on creating other accounts on federated media, but there's only so much one human with a fulltime job and a farm business can keep up with.
As someone who used to love pre-reels instagram a lot. I hope this happens.

Pixel fed has a loooong way to go. The app is terrible.
luckily you aren't forced to use the official app, like you are with Instagram. Pixelix is really good, for example.
