This meme is valid for 20 hours.
Then it reverses or vanishes.

It depends on the Depends readings....

Trump just announced a while ago that now tech is exempt from all tariffs. This will probably change because fuck consistency. Everything else not tech is still tariffed.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is it really all tech? I read somewhere that only a few different types of products were excluded.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 day ago

At this point it doesn’t even matter. Whatever I type out will have changed in the last 5 minutes because we let some guy run our country based off social media posts. I think it’s currently limited to smartphones, laptops and computer chips. Which to me is basically all the tech we were trying to “bring back” but who knows anymore.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

It would be if I didn’t live in this hellscape. Lucky I’m in California, but they’re trying to force their agenda on us here too.

Oh I live in Maryland. I just think it's hilarious that he decided that the one of the things that we've actually been subsidizing against free trade principles(local technology manufacturing, particularly chips) is what he's exempting. They're not sending their brightest to the white house.

Not only that, this was his whole argument for tariffs. China didn’t even “negotiate” like all his supporters said they would. He just did it because the economy is fucked because his big brain move turned out to be awful for safety of the economy. Which wasn’t working for all of us anyways, but is certainly better than working for literally only the .01%.

It's just very amusing, because we already blocked their cars before this even started. Supposedly we want to import chips and locally produce trash homegoods and sweatshop clothing. But we're also going to ban the immigration that we used back when we produced sweatshop clothing. It's just so dumb it's hilarious. A grade schooler would produce a better protectionist plan. At this point it's too incoherent to even be called protectionist.

How would an electric car with a smart screen and shit not be considered technology

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What does technology even mean?

Does it mean semiconductors, which we don't have a ton of manufacturing capability in the states, or software as a service?

If it's the former, basically all manufactured goods have tech in them these days

the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes

When Apple builds a factory in 'merica, (10 years from now), and an iPhone is $9600 usd vs 20 eur...then you'll 'get' it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

A bit snarky for something that is hard to keep up with. First there are tarrifs, then not, then some then paused, then all goods, then exemptions for the one thing that actually was logical to tariff, but at reasonable amounts.

Do he wants to encourage manufacture of cheap plastic trinkets in the USA and keep tech manufacturers overseas? It's all just more and more stupid.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Wtf is your problem? I thought maybe the meme had some clever inside joke meaning, didn’t realize it was straightforward literal. My bad. So sorry to offend you.

I get the point this is making, but do we even import any apples?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

The US imports a lot of fruit and vegetables from the southern hemisphere when they're in season there and out of season locally.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The bulk of American apples are from Washington.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

We also export them. I wonder how high the tariffs on granny smiths are gonna be in China.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

So they just need to take a bite out of each of the apples first and they avoid the tariffs.
