US President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day pause on "reciprocal" tariffs that had just been placed on imports from dozens of countries.

Those countries will now by subject to the 10 per cent baseline tariff, rather than the additional tariffs announced by the president last week.

In the same social media post, Mr Trump said he was again increasing the tariff on Chinese goods to 125 per cent.

Hmmmmmm, so lots of very rich people just became a lot richer as they buy up lots of cheaper shares.

So did somebody manage to explain to orange Muppet what an absolute mess he was creating I wonder.

Or is he actually a smart nan, the smartest in the world, and understands fully what he just did in order to create this short term wealth making machine ?

I bought a $100 bottle of bubbly a couple of weeks ago in preparation to celebrate his passing, I hope I get to drink it soon enough. Cheers from Australia.

He literally announced "time to buy" on his stupid social media platform 4 hours before the pause announcement went out. Blatant market manipulation.

Well, it's a 90 day pause (and the tariffs aren't completely paused), so there's still time to fuck it all up again I guess

I live in a civilized country under the rule of law so I won't advocate violence here. But factually and historically in the past countries with far fewer hand guns have found popular solutions to problems like this that involved mobs with sharp pointy things.

This is the furthest thing from responsible government I can imagine. Even the craziest authoritarian leaders usually commit to something then do it. Lets kill all the sparrows. Or lets shoot all the people wearing glasses. This is fucking crazy. It looks more like stock market manipulation than economic policy. The uncertainty alone has to be costing billions in productivity as businesses pause investments, orders, lay off employees etc.
