What a tastefully named gentleman.
Vinyl and LPs - Analogue Music Goodness
A community discussing turntables, vinyl and the art of listening to high-fidelity music on spinning platters.
I don't know, man. There have been useless colored records for a really long time.
They're pretty and people like them, I think. And aren't there two songs on that album with "blues" in the name? 💙
One person's tasteless is another person's nifty :D I specifically seek out neat colored vinyl, since for me they're mostly collectibles.
I’m looking to get my first Monk album. Where should I start?
Genius of Modern Music, Vol. 1 is probably as good a starting point as anything. My personal favorites are Brilliant Corners and Monk and Coltrane at Town Hall.
If you want a cool album jacket, there are a bunch of greats, but I'd mention Underground and Monk's Music as great albums with awesome cover art. Whatever you go with, good luck and welcome aboard!
Thank you, kindly.
You can’t really go wrong imo. There’s one of him w Coltrane recorded (I think) after Miles fired Coltrane for being unreliable but before Miles rehired him and made Kind of Blue. Monk and Coltrane became good friends in this period, Monk had something like a 6 month run at this club in NY with Coltrane in the group and that’s about when Coltrane really started stretching out into outer space.
Thelonius Himself was also during this period, solo piano except for the last number with Coltrane.
Monk plays Duke Ellington is good. Whichever one you see in the shop, just get that one.
Wow. Thanks fr the great info! I’ll see what I can find tomorrow. Thanks again.
