Historical Artifacts
Just a community for everyone to share artifacts, reconstructions, or replicas for the historically-inclined to admire!
Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.
Generally speaking, ruins should go to !historyruins@lemmy.world
Illustrations of the past should go to !historyillustrations@lemmy.world
Photos of the past should go to !HistoryPorn@lemmy.world
This is a really cool site.
Jake the Snake Roberts stockings
"Ladies and gentleman, Taffy Lewis presents, Miss Salome and the snake. Watch her take the pleasures from the serpent that once corrupted man."
I started thinking, "it would be tricky to wear those with most shoes because the vamp would cover the snake's tongue and head." Which of course led me to start searching for pictures of women's shoes and feet from 1900. Looks like most came up over the ankle. I had to add "brothel" to the search, and even then most of their shoes wouldn't have worked. So I guess one reason these are in such good repair is that they weren't worn often, and probably for purposes that didn't involve a lot of walking.
