Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Punch a Nazi and get two days off of school. Sounds like a clear win.
"Literal torture and abuse" by "radical pacifist type liberals" huh?
What in the psyop are you trying to pull there, Jerry?
There was a whole dialogue about "is it OK to punch nazis" in like 2016. Most libs in my life, including a college professor were very against punching nazis. I'm certain any comment section outside of Lemmy is full of libs going "You can't just assault people because of their opinions, that makes you just as bad as nazis".
20 years ago I might have said you shouldn't punch a kid for saying Nazi shit, because he doesn't understand what he is saying and is probably just being edgy. By 2016 I was pretty on board with punching Nazis. In 2026, while I still would not punch a child because I am an adult, that's about as far as I will go with that statement. Kid did good.
That's pretty much what's happening right now in France. I hope we get through this kicking more fascist asses, hopefully once Lyon remember its fucking history.
When your opinion is ethnic cleansing, no, using violence against that doesn't make you as bad as the Nazis. Stop race hate by any means necessary. (Not saying that's your stance, just my 2 cents to that dumbass argument)
You can abuse and torture someone without using violence.
It's stuff you made up in your head to push your position/narritive.
Calling you out for posting made up nonsense broadly attacking a group you frequently disparage is not vagueposting, that's very direct. Even if you believe your prejudices truly are representative enough of the whole to warrant being shared, which no, don't try and dismiss their criticism by reframing what they've said as something you can object to. That's not what they were doing, and what you're doing is transparent.
You think a significant part of the population would torture their child over this?
Yes, definitely. Plenty of parents would just see "my son punched someone at school and got suspended for 2 days" and they would do everything in their power to make those 2 days hell as punishment. I'm honestly amazed some of y'all seem not to be familiar with these types of parents.
It is incredibly common for parents to tell their kids to beat up their bullies even if it's against school rules.
This is a fantasy you have bro. You know nothing about this kid.
Yeah you know what, I do in fact think that you've made up the idea that liberals are prone to torturing their children. Gonna stick with that. No idea what any of the rest of that has to do with torturing their children, and most of it is highly conservative behavior, so. Just gonna ignore it.
The (again made up) assumption that I've lived a sheltered life is another attempt to dismiss the argument as baseless instead of addressing it. You have no evidence for these claims, you've just got your prejudice.
You've definitely lived a sheltered life if you don't believe in shitty parents, idk what to tell you.
My argument has never been that shitty parents don't exist, don't try to present like I have ever claimed that. Everything here is pointing out that your fantasy - that a significant proportion of parents fall into the category of "pacifist liberals who torture their kids" - is something you just plain made up.
Edit: Oh. Well thank you, mods!
I didn't "make up" anything, I commented about an experience I have witnessed among many, many of my peers. Shitty parents who fetishize rules and uphold them over what is right are very common in my personal, lived experience. I am happy for you that you find this so unbelievable, because it means your life has been much better than mine.
Man. You're really committed to this.
I just made an offhand comment saying I hope his parents are supportive despite the fact that many aren't. Then a dozen people dog piled me with "actually there's no such thing as an unsupportive parent you're making that up this is a psyop!!!!"
From my perspective, you're the one strangely committed to denying that there has ever been a shitty parent anywhere on Earth.
Yeahhhh, buddy no. That's not what happened. Nobody has ever claimed there weren't unsupportive parents, you made up that a significant proportion of parents (conveniently members of a group you dont like) were prone to torturing their children.
And then after a ban, you're back to try and make up the narrative yet again. Bold strat there.
I've seen it plenty of times. Solitary confinement is torture, punitive beatings are torture. Where I'm from, it's very common for parents to inflict these forms of torture on their children.
That was the made up claim you were rightfully called out over - once again, I'm not here to argue that shitty parents don't exist, and I have never claimed that they don't. I'm not about to argue about it, either, since that's not the claim you've been criticized for making up.
I didn't make anything up. That is an observation of the world around me and I stand by it.
Leave me alone, you clearly have no interest in having a reasonable conversation.
You got banned and came back 24 hours later to start this fight again - you are 100% within your rights to leave and I will absolutely respect that, but I'm not about to let you pretend you didn't absolutely start this back up after an extremely clear indication that you should drop this. If you want to stop talking about it, feel free to stop.
I have no idea what you're talking about, I'm just replying to what's in my inbox.
Ban notifications also get sent to your inbox.
Nope.
Denies genocides, denies functionality baked into the lemmy protocol... man, you're a real piece of work.
