Particle matter (PM2.5) is known to be a serious risk factor. The small particles are found in smoke and also pollution from cars. Living close to a highway also is a big risk factor for autism. So let's deregulate pollution a big more and blame Tylenol and vaccines?
Living next to highways is also linked to asthma, as is swimming in poorly ventilated indoor pools, or badly ventilated garages with exhaust build up. Other ailments as well.

"“All we can point out is this association in the third trimester,” Guglio said. “It takes other people down the line to investigate those pathways more directly.”"
PM2.5 induced inflammation is probably the link. And is also associated with ARCD (age related cognitive decline), Alzheimer's Disease and numerous other organ/ system diseases.
