I feel pretty directionless in life right now and would love to find a community or local organization that I can contribute to and feel passionate about. This forum doesn't seem to be super active, but if anyone out there is reading this, I am curious to hear people's experiences volunteering in/around the city, and if you have any personal recommendations based on your own interests?

Thank you!

P.S. I'm interested in things like wildlife/biodiversity/habitat conservation, youth education/outreach, community gardening, animal care, and the arts. But those are all pretty broad categories so if you have any experience with them please do share!

I volunteer at mustard seed in Red Deer and I think they have buildings in Calgary too. Signing up for shifts is easy because you just do it online. It’s low stress and easy.

Thanks! What kind of work do you do there, if you don't mind me asking?

I usually do the food service Sunday evenings. But theres things like just doing coffee service too, or if you’re a morning motivated person theres meal prep for kids who don’t have lunches in the mornings during the week. Usually a shift for me entails food prep, then standing there and serving food to a lineup, then tearing down and washing dishes and putting them away. Usually around 2 hours.

Thank you! I'll look into it :)
