The joke is that this speech, imo tastefully read in the voice of a sinister anime villain, is an utterly ridiculous thing for a person to say. It doesn't even make sense, really. That's why it's funny, it's funny that it doesn't make any sense.
I would know. This saying things that almost make sense kinda but really, really don't thing is, like, my whole brand. It's damn near the only joke I tell.
I once boasted to a friend of mine "my pussy is huge. Cavernous, even. I could fit a hundred cigarettes in there." Now, a vagina? Cigarettes? Disgusting! Why would I say that? Because measuring a vagina's diameter in how many cigarettes it can, I dunno, smoke at once? is absurd. It's ridiculous. It doesn't even make sense, really.

Well, someone made a joke about about genitals and now that mean we are on storefront now apparently.
that whole scene coalesced around edgy memes and their eponymous lords used that as a launching point for all that kind of nonsense. It is so much better if we actively choose to fight it when history tries to repeat itself. Maybe if a few more people had shouted down those chucklefucks back then we could still enjoy edgelord memes ironically today.
I'm all down for a post post modern retro future meme revival.

They aren't even saying this is edgy in fact they like the meme. They're just telling and informing us about the slippery slope that this sort of meme can give if a community isn't aware of themselves. As an elder millennial on the internet, I agree with this sentiment that we should be careful with what kind of views and humor we share with each other. It should always be explicit that these jokes are jokes and not representative of the actual views of the community. Satire needs to remain satire
How can it be seen in any other way?
You see it happen over a course of 5 years or so. A community posts jokes with poor taste as satire but slowly and surely the people who are posting the jokes are people who are posting them seriously and they're still getting upvotes and support because of the way th community views the jokes as "positive" slowly the people who aren't for those jokes leave because its not clear if we're joking anymore. All that's left are the people who post the satire seriously.

Criticizing women. Not that women should be free from criticism, but take this exact same meme without the "what hypocrisy" at the end. Is it less funny? Is that adding anything other than pathos for incels reading it?
There's also the comment section. At the time I commented, two of the ten top level comments were saying to insult the woman's vagina, and they were both upvoted. That kind of masturbatory five-minutes-of-hate directed at a hypothetical woman is pure incel shit.
She's not real. This didn't happen. That means whatever emotional reaction they're having was just inside them waiting to come out. Incel shit.

I think Lemmy will be a good lesson for why reddit turned out how it did, feels like the beginning of a familiar cycle
yeah, I got downvoted for backing up a person who pointed that out.
I've tried bringing up these complicated issues in the spaces we are encouraged to talk about them (.db0) and was banned for not complaining about the same things the mods cared about.
Every week i contribute less to this space, i really wanted to support a reddit alternative, but this place doesn't look like it will be much different.
Well, I promise disengaging isn't going to make anything better. Let's see how far this federated rabbit hole goes.
I have tried for over a year now to make this space enjoyable, and I'm kinda done.
Every time I open this app there's some random redditor shitting on every post and comment I make in good faith.
This is a negative dopamine loop app. The only enjoyable part of it is trolling the peanut gallery.
And as long as I can get positive dopamine loops from other social media then lemmy is just inferior as a place to spend time.
Honestly, an excellent choice.
pretty sure redditors who 1. have disproportionately been banned from reddit for some reason or another and 2. feel some sense of victimization and seeks anti-reddit solidarity on Lemmy are going to have significant overlap with incels and misogynists. Lemmy has overwhelming millennial tech bro vibes ime.
