I know that this isn't remotely the point but I just have to say something because it's been bugging me.

I don't get Trump's "thumbs up". It's so cringe. Like...what's it for? It's like he's saying "I like this" but...like for who?

He does it in a lot of his pictures so I'm guessing he never learned literally anything else? Except the Black Panther's fist raise?

His thumbs up is always below the waist too like the punch symbol. Like he's almost embarrassed to do it. So, why does he do it?

It's not like his followers do it. I've never seen MAGA do it. But I've seen his kids do it.

Is it a genetic thing?

Sorry for the rant but...it's been bugging me

It's not nuanced. It's an image thing. His followers see the gesture and conclude their idol is in control of the situation.

Compare this to pictures of Biden where he's making ambiguous expressions (because he's just talking normally), which conservatives have been trained to see as signs of sleepiness, confusion, ineptitude etc.

pisses me off. in high school, for our senior IDs my group of friends took "goofy" photos and mine was just a muppet grin and two thumbs up. all of my friends have continued to use our poses whenever anyone asks for a goofy pose, i don't know why, we've all drifted apart but it's a relic of that long old tight relationship that rivals maybe only our spouses. thumbs up is mine krasnov i'm not letting you take it you petty spray tan bitch we can dance off or slap fight for it the choice is yours.

virtue signaling is common to both liberals and fascists

It is an idiocracy thing. His followers are morons who understands thumbs up as a sign of something great. So Trump uses thumbs up to show how great it is that he is cozying up to these dictators or for holding orphan babies whose parents had just been killed by a Trump supporter, etc.
