They 'probably' don't expect him to be on their side considering that they 'probably' know he's not a US monarch. They're just so used to their own king openly acting like a despot, that they therefor have an expectation that 'olde tyme' symbols of totalitarianism like kings and emperors should always act the part. He's ruining the aesthetics
