For a good chunk of history, kings and lords and the other wealthy folk who could afford lavish luxuries such as entertainment would hire a "fool."

Now, every schlub and his granny has an always-on computer camera telephone TV in their pocket with access to all entertainment ever recorded anywhere. By and large, the fool is still a pretty popular choice.
