So this virus takes over the planet without a sustainable plan to survive? What's the overall goal?
I wonder if the virus was created as a way of creating the "perfect" robot. Their job seems to be to serve those that are not a part of the hive.
The twist then being that this version of the virus, in an attempt to make them more subservient, can't take care of themselves.
like a self censoring LLM. I already get a lot of Ai vibes from "them"
So I've read a number of theories that the story being told is AI. I don't think that was planned, but it definitely could be. I think it's more of a story about happiness and what makes someone happy, but I think that is absolutely entwined with AI.
The parallels to LLMs were 99% intentional. Vince Gilligan has strongly criticized artificial intelligence, calling it "the world’s most expensive and energy-intensive plagiarism machine." He even included a disclaimer in the show’s credits stating, "This show was made by humans."
