Does it still benefit you if it isn't reported to your insurance company and you get I guess to pay less

Yes, but it's extortion. It benefits me in the same way that if I pay the mob $100, it's cheaper than if they broke the windows in my shop.

But you did break the law in this case. Waiving it if you do some online class is not exactly extortion imo
