What's with the dodgeball references? I'm out of the loop apparently.
Tumblr joke about Apollo hitting people with the gift of prophecy at random, via just a dodgeball.
It's a reference to a meme that was particularly popular on Tumblr at some point, it's called Apollo's Gift of Prophecy Dodgeball, you can google that to see some examples. Basically when someone makes an obvious and ridiculous joke that (much) later turns out to be true, they were struck by the dodgeball of prophecy.
I see. Thank you!
Yeah, and it doesn't really NEED to be much later, it can be as much as a few days. Like uh, this extremely funny thing that happened to Jezebel.
Its an older meme but it checks out.
Basically it's a joke about how Apollo provides prophecy's. Most people don't recognize their seemingly innocent joke as prophecy. Until it actually happens at which point it's Apollo beaning you in the face with a dodgeball. The dodgeball came from a variation of the meme, and basically became the meme of a statue with a dodgeball. At least I think that's how it all happened
Sorta, the original meme comes from this edit (with a typo none of the less) of a stock photo from back in 2020. The picture I posted is pretty much a variation of the meme, except it's Apollo looking at the dodgeball and his potential victim with malicious intent.
