Don't let your cat outside unleashed and unsupervised. They are terrible for the local wildlife, but even that side, cats allowed access to the outdoors unsupervised live drastically shorter lives.
I live adjoining a small forested area. My new neighbor is putting up a fence for his two outside dogs and outside cat. I'm going to miss all the animals coming up to and into my yard. :(
Got some adorable foxes, possums, deer, raccoons, squirrels, and skunks. Even a bear one time!
Drastically? The family cat I had growing up only came home for food and out of boredom. He lived to be 14 and only died because of a tumor.
I trust I don't have to explain how your one cat is just one point of data.
Actually one time I had this anecdote and it turned out to be correct
