Hello new Lemmy friends!
Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.
The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.
Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.
We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

Found Shames “full-time” job.
You might be onto something. His current job listed has something to do with AI and marketing. Could be along these lines for sure. Most of Sarah Landry following is bots and farmed engagement but he very well could be managing that
Her ‘career’ didn’t take-off until she hooked up with the IT Magician - he’s behind the huge number of followers. I don’t doubt that for a second.
I’m waiting for her Reddit page to get shut down. Too much chatter about commenting and dm’s to the hospital.
I can’t believe that campaign! And the hospital foundation is shamelessly deleting all the negative comments. The page could get shutdown for brigading if they don’t keep quiet
Even hospital staff are insulted. They have deleted so many comments.
Exactly
What’s their Instagram page?

Perhaps Shane Landry helped Sarah Nicole #thebirdspapaya gather and pay for the robots and market her false career and numbers. Was this just the start of many clever maneuvers to market a stay-at-home mom from Guelph, Ontario, into an "emperor's new clothing-style influencer"?
One can suspect that Shane did much more than buy bots; when Sarah met Shane, she started getting "features" in tacky British and Scottish tabloids. Shane's role as Chief Technology Officer at Concourse Media would give him some leverage. Concourse Media, through its UK office, had ad-buying power and connections with these exact tabloids. Shane asking a tabloid for an occasional editorial feature on his girlfriend wouldn't be a big ask, kickback-wise, when a company like Concourse Media was a partner and a client. The press that was secured for Sarah was all sexual "mom" or massive weight loss-still sexual Mom stuff, clickbait style. The articles, featuring Sarah naked, in bikinis or lingerie, were embedded in the features from her IG directly, getting her views via the publication's readership and perv followers. The same embedded IG video style of Sarah Nicole Landry's IG was used on over five xxx sites. The xxx sites don't feature "stolen" photos; instead, they highlight embedded videos that, when viewed, would count as views on Sarah's IG account @thebirdspapaya
Over to her website. Sarah didn't have a blog or website* for over two years before meeting Shane, then, poof, on December 31, six weeks after leaving her now ex-husband, a new professionally built, branded website with seo launched with fanfare and a cake-smash shoot for Sarah. Where did she find the time to create this website and the skills to do so? Did she get a new not-broken laptop? Where'd she get the money for that? Wasn't she living on Optimum points at Christmas? And wasn't Loblaws/ PC Home her favourite Christmas shop, not #CanadianTire?
Once the site was launched and the tabloids were popping, a professional, agency-style sales card with stats and numbers for Sarah went out to PR and ad agencies. I'll post this card later this week. The card highlighted Sarah's fitness expertise. That, paired with a podcast where Sarah claimed to be a trainer. *I'll post the Google listing for the podcast, which has the trainer quote; the podcast is down.
Bird Brain, especially at this newly separated time in her life, wasn't capable of funding or carrying out the business moves mentioned above. She didn't have the training, contacts or, according to her, the money. From her own mouth, Sarah stated that her original blog at www.thebirdspapaya.com was a failed mess, and that she sucks at crafts and homemaking—the focus of her OG site—she discusses this during the YouTube interview with Cat&Nat. *Visit the Wayback Machine for a view of her OG site. Sarah also didn't update www.thebirdspapaya.com for years before meeting Shane. *This can be seen on the Wayback Machine. Sarah must have lost interest or not had the time.
newly separated not yet divorced, did she mention she is divorced?
When Sarah left her husband, she played the broken-down but filtered-to-perfection abuse survivor, newly single mom working two jobs. She claimed to have no money. Sarah had to crowd-fund her pet bills at this time.
At this exact moment in her life, Sarah Nicole launched a total brand revamp—"just say"—which included a new website, a sales team, and a magical PR team with overseas connections. How'd she pay for all this? The PR representation with international reach would cost at least $5,000 per month. How'd she pay for multiple new professional photoshoots for the website? How'd she land her dream editorial and production job at Concourse Media for Forkly with NO post-secondary degree, no experience, and no blog at the time? Where's the good friend who got her the job? Did we ever hear about this friend again? Why does Sarah's work for Forkly look like it was made by a child? *Watch the "Sarah Nicole Forkly" videos on YouTube. How would incapable Sarah figure out how to make a podcast? Was she smart when she claimed to be a CEO, and then did that intelligence vanish in her hot era? I have many questions. Please share your thoughts.
Why would a person who can do all of this on her own need to plagiarise content creators' work, complete paragraphs, word-for-word, in 2021 and 2022? Isn't she a writer? Is she smart, dumb, or a copycat?
Back to budgets, what poverty looks like for Sarah Nicole Landry, meeting Shane and his role in her career.
Six weeks after the separation (December), Sarah bought a brand-new car and went on a girls' trip. The broke single mom had money for many hair appointments, including extensions, lashes, nails, and spray tans. *For more info, scroll way, way down her IG page.
Weeks after her separation, Sarah landed and then managed a new career at Concourse Media; she must have had one hell of a learning curve. Sarah was so good* (sarcasm) at writing and producing cooking videos for Forkly, owned by Concourse Media, she still had time to fuck #ShaneLandry after work, outdoors, in public, in a kids' playground. Do you think this couple from #Guelph met months before they met at #ConcourseMedia, now #system1 ? When Sarah met Shane Landry, he lived with his now ex-girlfriend. Do you think these two met before Concourse Media? Did Shane Landry secure a career for Sarah so she could leave her ex? Sarah's six-week road to a new job, a new look, a new website, a new car, it seems fast for a person who couldn't even keep a website going and who was suddenly navigating two jobs without a partner.
The following year, Papaya's parents repurchased her house for her; she didn't; according to paperwork, Papaya's parents did. Sarah Nicole played the victim while having full-time day care, a single mom's dream. She lived in her parents' larger home during her separation; she didn't pay rent. Sarah's parents, #ScottCorney & Nana Kimi, are upper-middle-class, something Sarah forgets to mention, maybe because they have no class.
One can only imagine where Shane and Sarah could have been if the faces she filters on them were their actual faces. Sarah filters her entire family's faces, including her kids; the youngest also gets the big princess eyes, in person, the youngest favours Shane's tired eyes. Suppose they had actually been THAT attractive, or if any of them had real talent on camera, this scheme could have launched them into their own show on Netflix.
What S&S set up was enough to help Sarah's IG numbers grow and get views. What made Thebirdspapaya notable was her ability to take this setup and combine it with visual and mental manipulation during the COVID-19 Lockdowns, a marketer's dream, a captive audience. S&S shared intense birth-related clickbait, a play-by-play live birth, live breastfeeding, and a curated, misleading post that looked like the baby died. With all the death in the world, BIRTH was an engagement winner. Positive or negative. They played a smart game with how content was presented to followers: the most filtered, sexual and outrageous content lived on stories. Brands perusing her main feed would be none the wiser. Remember TheBirdsPapaya's top line on her profile for over five years? Stories EAT FIRST.
Then the world opened up, Sarah was seen in reality, the backlash and questions poured in by the thousands. Ironically, this helped Sarah. Loyal women supporting women type up their support of the Birds Papaya. The Canadian media backed her. After all, Sarah had an apron belly, was claiming she was suicidal and look at all she had survived (according to her), what kind of monster would attack a beautiful, wounded bird?
Toothy-Joanna from Knix jumped in, paying for partnerships with SI for Sarah, articles, and the Miami Swim Week runway show. Knix was in trouble of its own, former spokespeople were speaking out, there were multiple lawsuits against Knix, and employees were speaking up on Glassdoor. Just like Trump does with the Epstien files, Joanna used $$ and PR to distract. Joanna paid to make Sarah a "superstar", but it didn't take. Is this when @thebirdspapaya's fame peaked? The crash came quickly. Too many people were already onto her publicly just before the SI walk. From Reddit to IG (think of Sarah's Women's Health and BT IG backlash). Right after SI, Reddit was shut down, people were threatened; aggressive online bullies appeared defending Sarah. Looking back on that moment, it was a social media frenzy.
Sarah, Joanna, and Shane's biggest mistake was shutting it all down. The criticism, the Reddit, the backlash actually helped Sarah. The Papaya Empire is now fading. The world is fully open. She lacks the chops to make it on TV. Her body isn't voluminous anymore; she didn't realize that was a big draw for men and many women. Her focus is hot at 40. Yawn.
Sarah's IG numbers are dropping, and dropping faster than we think. I believe #thebirdspapaya has always had a "buy" 1000+ followers a day package*. The losses of 300-400 followers we can see now on socialbalde could be losses of 1500-2500 bots and people unfollowing daily. The difference is made up with more bought bots.
IG is slowing down.
What will be Shane's next move? Or Joanna's? They will need to come up with something really clever to save Princess Sarah and grow her brand. The Birds Papaya is falling behind quickly. Look at Mikalya or Remi compared to Sarah. Is Shane too stoned to help? Is Joanna too worried about the mess her company is in? Sarah is predictable. Many people here and on Reddit call her exact next move, which means she's dull, done, and tbh, despite the length of this recap, I'm bored with snarking on her. I stay for the laughs, the people and the side by sides. I compile information from the old Reddit here, so it remains in a safe place for lurkers who want to know more. XOXO Gossip Bitches *receipts available on request
QUEEN!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this amazing recap - I think people forget “from whence she came” but it’s so important. Sarah would be nowhere without her ‘Magician’ because she isn’t smart enough and lacks the ability to follow through on anything. She does have a quality that attracts people to her and they want to help but most figure out who she really is and leave. It makes you wonder about Shane and Joanna. Why are they still around? I also wonder about the future people she’s stepped on and over during her meteoric rise. Did she have everyone sign NDAs or are they just quietly waiting for the fall because they know it’s going to happen?
Is it true that S&S met at The Keg when she was the ‘poor server’ trying to make ends meet? It makes total sense this is where it all began.
👆 if anyone wants to know how Sarah Nicole Landry became famous, this sums it up perfectly. Well done.
:) I took notes from dozens of Snarkers from the OG sub. Lemmy has proven to be a safe space for the truth to live.
I wonder how many millions ot billions of advertising dollars were diverted from legit content to pay scammy influencers. No wonder they all cry on camera and have public mental breakdowns. They know they live a lie. If they cry and appear weak no one will question them.
Yes you did!
