The SayHi translation app (from Amazon) has been discontinued as of 8/5/24. My existing install no longer works, and the app is not available on the stores. The app main page just has the discontinuation notice, but no explanation.

I still have DeepL to fall back on, but had found SayHi to be a good alternative. I miss it.

Does anyone know why this was discontinued? Any idea if Amazon is expected to release a replacement?

Any suggestions for a replacement? What has worked for you?

Old post, but in case it's still useful, I strongly recommend using programs that are DRM free, or at most, that checks are 100% local like with CD keys from early Windows programs. I haven't come across anything about this one you mention, but you never know when a service is going to have its plug pulled.

As for replacement suggestions, I know none that build whole phrases, unless you want to have a local LLM in your phone.

Still, if more traditional dictionaries are good enough, QuickDic (FOSS - F-Droid link) has a few German dictionary databases, most for translations from/to other languages, and one for definitions (in German).

Also, from my tests, found a paid DRM free one on Google Play, and it seems good from what I used. There's a small problem though, it's a French-German translation dictionary, no other languages included. Still, if you'd be interested, it's Larousse's "Dictionnaire allemand-français" (link).
