Problem is this part:

To achieve this through technological means, such as direct air capture, would require the construction of the world’s second biggest industry, after oil and gas, and require expenditures of about a trillion dollars a year, scientists said. It would need to be done alongside much more drastic emissions cuts and could also have unintended consequences.

That makes it incredibly unlikely that this kind of removal will be done.

ClimatePunctuation is still accelerating, and will continue accelerating for decades.

Exactly as you can KNOW that a derailed-train which is still moving fast, being pushed by the still-on-rails following 3-km of it ( presuming North American freight-train ), is going to annihilate a town it's sweeping-toward,

anyone with the guts to accept the data, in spite of the denial-embodying models, can KNOW that ClimatePunctuation is going to continue accelerating, until it reaches its peak process-change-speed, and only-then will it begin slowing-down, settling into the resultant Equilibrium, not a Temperate-World climate, but either a Warm-World, or a Hot-World, or a replicant of Venus's extermination-of-all-life ( & a former NASA Chief Scientist identified that Venus is a possible-outcome, years ago, at their retirement-time )

Nobody's going to be building such tech: the ideological-wars, the political-wars, the religious-wars, the oceans-of-migrants surging across borders, as parts of our world become uninhabitable, all contribute to setting-up WW3.

Then the 100,000 artillery-shells per DAY, late in 1 of the previous wars, will look .. like a quaint picnic.

THIS is what The Great Filter(tm) ACTUALLY is: humankind's unconscious WON'T grow-up, until there's only 1 faction left alive.

Read Nobel-laureate Daniel Kahneman's book "Thinking, Fast and Slow", in order to understand the 2 different brain-systems we do our thinking with,

& understand that all ideologies are in what they ( him & Tversky ) called "System 1", which is a useless name, without context, so I call it the imprint->reaction system, or the lower-forebrain ( see in the book "Top Brain / Bottom Brain" how those 2 systems correlate so well with "System 1" & "System 2" )

The world is now in a beatdown between the imprint->reaction system, with its ideologies & its programming, against both objectivity ( yes, ClimatePunctuation is going to MASSIVELY reduce the human population, this century, with the help of all the wars & genocides.. that is as-much objective fact as is the new hyperspeed hurricane-development cycle, with the warmer oceans ), & correct-reasoning.

Sometimes you have to honestly accept that someone you're woven-into, someone who's woven-into you, is on-course to exterminate their own life, through addiction..

Humankind is addicted to ideology..
