Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) are AI-powered cameras that capture and analyze images of all passing vehicles, storing details like your car’s location, date, and time. They also capture your car’s make, model, color, and identifying features such as dents, roof racks, and bumper stickers, often turning these into searchable data points. These cameras collect data on millions of vehicles—regardless of whether the driver is suspected of a crime. While these systems can be useful for tracking stolen cars or wanted individuals, they are mostly used to track the movements of innocent people.

Boyce, who says she voted for President Donald Trump and is a staunch supporter of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., found herself making common cause with people on the left who also opposed the cameras.

“I’ve had to really be open to having conversations with people I normally wouldn’t be having conversations with,” she said.

Her coalition won out. On Sept. 9, the City Council voted unanimously to end Sedona’s contract with Flock.

Unfortunately yeah in this fight you're gonna find that a lot of ordinary moderate people won't care but the crazies and radicals of all stripes fear government surveillance enough to fight against it

Edit to clarify: the crazies are right here, most normal people don't engage with the issue and just assume it's fine, but among people who fear government surveillance you're gonna get some nuts
