It's much worse than that. He's a proponent of the "prosperity gospel," which says God directly rewards a person's faithfulness and adherence to scripture with worldly success. So if you need help, that means you have not been a good enough Christian, so it would be against God's will for his church to help.
It always amazes me how rich people gaslight everyone else into believing they are poor due to some kind of lack of effort or the other, but attributing it to lack of faith is straight of cruel.
So, if I am poor is not only a signal of my lack of effort but also I should feel ashamed about being a lousy devout?
Wtf man! The longer I think about it the more twisted it gets!
Even worse, many of them do this with illness, too. Because if you’re devout enough, god will heal you. If you’re not getting better, there’s obviously something wrong with your faith.
I call it the impoverishment gospel
