I'd be bummed if my son turned out gay because it's so much extra hassle. Maybe things will turn around by the time he's an adult.

Literally nothing extra has to be done by you, you just go on loving and supporting your kid the (hopefully) same as ever.

I think they meant that the world is harder for gay people, and they don't wish that for their son.
