Then we've got crabs being the anti-whales. Holding water around their gills? Or whatever essentially holding their breath until they go back in. Or maybe they are anti-turtles?

Not sure but cold blooded animals have to breath much less so crabs have an easier time holding their breath than warm blooded whales

Do they though? Many whales can hold their breath for an extremely long time

Although it's often not strictly holding their breath so much as holding a massive amount of oxygen in their blood stream

I mean it on an evolutionary scale. Having huge amounts of oxygen in the blood sounds like an adaptation cold blooded animals wouldn't need
