The fact that we’re at this point is disturbing, a firearm could’ve easily scared them off but then the problem arises what if they return with firearms themselves. Edit: Also given that they caught him off guard even if he owned a firearm and if it were stored properly getting to it in this situation would be next to impossible, he got lucky.
People shouldn’t have to flee the country in fear of their lives.

You're right people shouldn't have to flee the country in fear of their lives. The question is where will they go? You can get bats anywhere. This looked like a targeted thing
