Boomer Shooters

A community about boomer shooters, a type of old-school FPS games before Half-Life revolutionized the genre. Boomer shooters have emphasis on shooting and sometimes traversing mechanics, are light or devoid of cutscenes, and the fun of making things go boom takes precedence over story. The name originates from a tongue in cheek description of the 2018 game Dusk and since stuck as a shorthand for the type of FPS.
Rules:
-
Don't complain about the term boomer shooter. It's a fixed term. I did not make it up.
-
Half-Life is not a boomer shooter.

Give me an example of a better game at the time because I don't remember seeing any.
Other games were really shitty. Show us an equivalent or a slightly worse game instead of arguing.
The video is about software optimization. Elite was a simple wireframe. It didn't have shading. It didn't have mixed bitmaps placed in the 3d space.
The video linked doesn't claim Wolf 3D was the first 3d game.
Ultima Underworld was painfully slow.
Other 3d games with bitmap graphic that came out before were actual slide shows. Like Eye of the Beholder. You'd press a key and get the different 3d view as a single frame. Other real time 3d games at the time were 3d polygon based like Elite.
