Agriculture and horticulture require fewer people year-round
Apart from picking, things are increasingly done by machine
It's a reality of rural life.
I genuinely don't see this trend reversing, particularly now that kids don't just slip into farm life and take over eventually they way they used to
I hesitate to call it the price of "progress", I think it's simply a shift in the way the world operates. Changes like this have been happening forever
