It's not the people spewing bullshit that are the problem. Those have always existed. It's the algorithms that promote and amplify the bullshit. This is ostensibly in the name of "engagement" but I've ceased to believe that's the main motive long ago. The owners of the major platforms very clearly use them to promote their far right agenda. Not all of them are as blatant as Musk but it's there on all of them.

Good example is the antivax bullshit. That would never have spread when I was young. People would, rightly, treat you like an idiot. They would have had no audience.
