Are you equating votes to speech? To me votes are the opposite of that. They are just a lazy shortcut.

That said, you can use your freedom of speech with me at your will. Until I find you boring enough to just silence you (aka, block).

So what is your point? What makes downvotes so bad?

They are just a lazy shortcut.

Can't you read?

I first thought you equated being down voted with being banned but your point was that being banned for down votes illustrate your point that Lemmy isn't better than reddit.

[–] Engywuck@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Exactly. At the end of the day, "unpopular" opinions just get silenced, even if harmless (if you aren't on some unpopularopinon sub, of course).

[–] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So you want unpopular opinions to be reacted to?

[–] Engywuck@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I mean, an opinion may unpopular but not necessarily evil (offensive/racist/sexist etc.). Often times, also not-evil unpopular opinions are just silenced (downvoted to hell) without any discussion.

What does "silenced" even mean? They aren't even hidden or something. I can't engage with everything. I barely downvote but often just ignore which would fall under silencing as well, wouldn't it? Or why not?
