Hey pals,
I keep thinking about this. I don't want to discourage people posting non-OC, but can we encourage people to source their work more? My opinion is that it's the right thing to do on principle, especially when we're talking about content from smaller creators and the like that could benefit from having more eyes on them. It's probably less important when it's a picture from a big porn studio or something along those lines.
Doesn't have to be a huge "here's 10 different links to all their stuff!", even just a "their name is Blank Blankson" or "it's @BlankBlanker69 on X" would suffice IMO.
Ultimately for me, using someone else's content for your gain as a poster without crediting them just feels... if not morally questionable, then rude. I wouldn't make a YouTube video with a song in it without crediting that artist.
I do understand that this is not generally the norm in the world of NSFW content, and a lot of users wouldn't have sources for their content, that's why I say "encourage" sourcing y'know.
Any thoughts, anything I missed, etc?
I don't think you can viably enforce strict sourcing requirements at an instance-wide level because, like you mention, most posts fall into one of two camps, either it's OC or something that someone found and saved a decade ago. People can do their best with reverse image searching, but for a lot of porn content it will have been reposted to oblivion already and that may not be reliable. The fact that anyone can make a new community at any time just makes things even harder.
I agree that not listing sources when you know them is at best rude and at worst unacceptable. Not to call anyone out(although they are a FREQUENT offender), but I just saw this post a bit ago.

This is literally a user of this site who posts content for free as advertising and you can't even be bothered to credit them or cross-post? Seriously?
That's a good point, yeah. Much more manageable on a Community-by-Community basis and can let users choose whether or not they want to join communities that allow unsourced images.
But yeah, with no offense to that poster, they're definitely one of the ones I had in mind ๐
