Yeah I was only speaking for the Catholics, I don't know much about other churches. But yeah independent church I guess would be more free to do anything they feel like doing compared to the Catholic or Orthodox church. Same goes for mosques even though they don't really have a central authority like Catholic church they also follow some strict rules.
