Losing Gawker was a big turning point for the public not having a consistent satirical biting rag news site. Looking back, losing gawker probably contributed to the enshitification of Reddit too with the influx of Gawker commenters. We may never have been able to avoid the current reality but if Gawker was around still it would have certainly been different.
thiel backing the lawsuit, just made a Conservative activism in the courts, which paved the way from right wing groups backed by russia and funded to introduce legislation or lawsuits against (non-religious laws)
