Y’all make fun of these folks. However they are living their life but adding walking into it.

We as a society should not be putting down those trying to better themselves. They are clearly working towards something.

The bar is really low when we praise people for walking

[–] irish_link@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

No praise, just saying don’t be a dick. Not the same but I get your point.

That depends if it is their first steps ever, if they had a bad accident, or major surgery.

I applaud your positivity, but those two are more likely to just walk to their car right now than walking for walkings sake.

You're judging them. They're minding their business. And implying moral failure for how they treat themselves. This is very much your problem. Nothing to do with them.

These are the same people that block my way when I go to generic 4th of July celebration they're not minding their business when their issues effect others. They're causing my insurance rates to go up and dragging their insolence with them in front of us is insulting.

[–] Asswardbackaddict@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Really? These two personally go around blocking your movement and writing your insurance policy? I'd be pretty pissed, too. Fuck them.

There's a difference between being overweight and being this insolent. It's like being told smoking is bad, so they smoke 3 cigarettes at the same time.

[–] Asswardbackaddict@lemmy.world -1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I'm going to smoke cigarettes, now. Respect autonomy, fuck nut.

You know, looking left and right, nobody can keep their hands to themselves. We all want to conform to what's right - but there is no objective right or wrong. It's a function of a social animal trying to align with the group. Criticism, reactionary violence, shunning, are all natural aspects of primate social interaction - it's part of learning, growing up, and getting along. It's not a moral failure - no moral position has grounding beyond the neurology and evolutionary psychology of the apes we are. I'll probably never talk to you again. I don't care if you change. Defending these people is clearly self-defense by proxy - marginalization has always been my reality. I am no better than you, and my opinions are no more valid. But, I do see that you're missing steps in your reasoning. You don't need change direction. I do think you need to flesh it out more.

Walking is a normal thing that every able-bodied person should be doing plenty of every day - assuming that this basic act must be "trying to better themselves" is condescending and infantilizing IMO.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The calories burned walking are completely offset by those consumed from the beverages. Walking in this case is probably pointless.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

And likely the walking wasn't a choice. This is disgusting.

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world -2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Calm down, it is a diet coke.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

It’s a gigantic Diet Coke, if it’s even Diet Coke.

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

That is just the mid morning one. Got to stay hydrated.

We see ourselves in other people. Part of being a social animal. Fat shaming, racism, this bipartisan shit are all results of the fact that externalizing your insecurities, shame, fear is easier than self excavation. For anyone reading this, when you feel the need to judge, dig into that feeling, whether you're mad at immigrants or oligarchs, that same feeling is actively, surgically explored to wield power over you. To make you procrastinate. To say the good old days, the time of real change, your ideal self is just around the corner. We're so close. Just you wait for the next election. The next scandal. The next death.
