Senior Kyiv economist describes latest postion of Trump administration in talks as ‘colonial-type’ bullying

The US has demanded control of a crucial pipeline in Ukraine used to send Russian gas to Europe, according to reports, in a move described as a colonial shakedown.

US and Ukrainian officials met on Friday to discuss White House proposals for a minerals deal. Donald Trump wants Kyiv to hand over its natural resources as “payback” in return for weapons delivered by the previous Biden administration.

Talks have become increasingly acrimonious, Reuters said. The latest US draft is more “maximalist” than the original version from February, which proposed giving Washington $500bn worth of rare metals, as well as oil and gas.

Man I tell you the EU better be careful about this. Trump will absolutely use this against them. This is an existential threat to their freedom. Frankly if I was the EU I'd be sending troops into secure this right now

The pipeline is already shut-off. It closed at the start of this year when the contract ran out. Only Hungary was pissed off when this happened, and fuck Orban.

The only reason the US wants control is to turn it on.

I like your thinking, reminds me of some posts laying out a scenario from mid-2022 where Ukraine does a totally legitimate attack on Poland, Poland does a totally legitimate counterattack on Ukraine and immediately takes all of its territory. Russkies either slink away with their stolen washing machines or get article fived out of existence.

Pretty sure it was from [email protected] though, I don't know if NATO's top strategists are subscribers.
