Close, it's where the image is hosted. The lemmy.world bit is a link to the image. Just like how any website link will say the domain of the destination.
I mean it probably is where a user is posting from, but sometimes it is not (not sure why but sometimes non-ml users will post images from ml)
Crossposting.
Crossposting is basically using a URL already attached to a post into another post. So if, I crosspost a picture of a squirrel originaly posted by a .world user in [email protected] to [email protected], the post will be linked to .world as it is the original url from which the image is federated to other instance.
