Yeah I really wish there was some kind of patent reform so a company can only hold a patent long enough for the work to create the innovation to be worth the pursuit of it.
Instead they will use patents to stifle innovation and stop people from being able to compete with new ideas based on an original innovation. The patent system was supposed to foster innovation, not stifle it.
Ive never seen any politician on any side do anything about the aggressive use of patents. Companies will buy out companies just for the patents. Its obviously a big issue that reworked would make it harder for a corporation to thrive without continuing to innovate and provide what the people really want or need.
Yeah it was decided initially so that the creator could still benefit from it and recoup r&d costs before a third party could copy their design without the r&d and be able to sell the product cheaper.
But now companies just patent any idea without using them just so other companies can't.
If a company doesn't use their patent within a certain time frame it should be completely revoked.
