I don't think the genocide is active anymore, this is a super weird hill to die on. To be honest Canada has a LONG way to go in terms of reconciliation. land acknowledgements, etc are a super fake check mark to be "native friendly" but they are a step in the right direction. No, Canadians are not actively murdering first Nations and burying them in mass graves.
Yes, the there still is some cultural genocide and the communities are still absolutely struggling to recover from being completely fucked by the Catholic Church and the Canadian government with residential schools, rascism, reserve system and destruction of food sources.
Pick your battles better.
The same way Israel is not murdering Palestinians, and Russia is never did any warcrimes.

Sorry, wait, are you seriously comparing on-going full scale genocides by both of those countries against ones that definitely happened years ago? I don't think anyone in this thread has said that a genocide hasn't happened? Those two have literal news reports, videos, article outlining that they are happening.
I can't believe I have to say this but sometimes there is a truth that exists in reality.
Human rights watch disagrees, and their report said any change by the politicians was performative, while violence is ongoing.
I'll bite, disagrees with what? I'm genuinely curious and would love the reading material. I'm reading the human Rights watch page for Canada and yeah, there's a lot of problems on there but I don't see anything countering what I said.
