The opposition of Honda and Audi alone is enough to torpedo the plan. With Mercedes also against the idea of abandoning hybrids, it appears to have no chance of success, even though Red Bull and Ferrari are said to back the idea.

What's interesting to me is Red Bull and Ferrari being in favour. I know there's been rumours about the progress of RBPT, but I thought Ferrari were very bullish about their 2026 engine. Why vote to throw away all that progress?

Confidence that they'd make the best V10 engine. Also: Pandering to backwards facing petrolheads who are their main customers.

Selling Ferraris at huge markups to have a v10 engine in it seems like a good reason. They could call it the Le Ham.

They're actually making a new roadcar with Hamilton called the F44.
