Depends on where the escalator is, both which state or country, and what facility the escalator is in.
Here, at a minimum, for a random escalator it would be a Class C misdemeanor.

If you manage to do more than $500 worth of damage, but less than $1,000, it's a Class A misdemeanor.

OTOH, if it's an escalator with more than $1,000 worth of damage, or involving "a public utility, telecommunications carrier, railroad, public transportation facility or medical facility", now we're talking a felony:
