This is false - he lies about this to help the Conservative and project strength when he knows full well our new guy will mop the floor with him.

perhaps, but also i think he truly to his core believes liberals are by definition weak and conservatives are by definition strong, so he thinks he can bully them rather than having to face a “strong” conservative
