Australia is considering joining the European-led coalition of the willing to support a lasting ceasefire in Ukraine, a statement issued by U.K. Prime Minister Keir Stamer's office read on March 8.

Unless there’s a seismic shift (i.e. us joining some non-US Asia-Pacific coalition or else embracing Xi Jinping Thought), our options are siding with the US or UK (or, at a more distant stretch, NATO/the EU separate from those). If the US is forming an axis of authoritarianism with Russia, then locking ourselves into alignment with the UK (and through that Ukraine, NATO and the EU as they currently stand) could make it harder for the conservatives and their oligarchical sponsors to pull us into the Trumpist axis should they win the next election.
