Depends where you are.

Maine vs Detroit

They are in the same time zone but far apart.

Detroit could really be in MST instead of EST

If Detroit moved to permanent MST, they would be in permanent EDT

I'm sure many people in Detroit would want permanent EDT or permanent MST

People in Maine would definitely want permanent EST

You can't pick one where everyone in US is happy
