China is building at least five new special purpose barges which appear tailor made for amphibious assault. The barges may provide the PRC (People's Republic of China) with a unique way to offload large numbers of tanks directly onto Taiwanese roads.

It's a shame how much human ingenuity is only deemed viable (from a resource expenditure standpoint) in a military context. A barge with a retractable cable-stsyef bridge is cool AF. Fighter aircraft probably feel amazing to fly - their performance characteristics must be fun AF to experience. But they're so resources intensive to operate that it only makes sense in a military context.
