Huh
This makes me wonder just how many beavers are accidentally killed due to their own tree cutting?/munching

The (significantly higher) weight makes the tree start leaning and breaking with a lot more warning, so they get out of the way much earlier. Since this one was cut so short, it didn't start leaning until it was basically completely severed, so there was little to no resistance to the fall.

All that said, it certainly happens. I've seen pictures of beavers crushed by felled trees.
