Hey guys, I've been on Lemmy since the APIcalypse and I'm a big Knicks fan, and really sports fan in general. It's a bit of a chicken or the egg problem with the sports communities on Lemmy, because I feel like there are actually more fans on Lemmy than we realize. But when the communities seem dead, people stop using them, and it's a vicious cycle. For some reason I never actually subscribed to this community in the first place, but I'll try to do my part from now on.
First of all I think keeping everything in one community is a must, like people initially went way too fast on trying to create team specific communities before building a generalized NBA community here.
I agree that incorporating the high seas would be a good idea, but it's also really disruptive to try to migrate to another server. Perhaps a workaround would be creating a separate community on a piracy friendly server and linking it from here when necessary.
But really the main thing is pretty simple: we all need to get out of our shells and try to post and comment more often, and hopefully things will build momentum from there.
