The basic argument of this conversation, between the two of us, was that you claimed people were censoring you, and I pointed out that making observations or even judgement calls about what you said doesn't prevent you from saying it. Absolutely no one is stopping you from saying whatever you want. I don't think anyone even tried to. I sure didn't.
If you want to turn it into "well I'm gay so I can say homophobic things without judgement, like black people saying the n-word" you'll have to do it alone because I have no interest in participating in that discussion.
Calling people you don't like gay as an insult isn't homophobic?
Perhaps the words don't mean what you think they mean.
This is not calling them gay as an insult. If it were saying "they are so gay" meaning "they are so bad" then yes. But this is drawing parallels between their behavior and that of gay people in an ironical way in order to highlight their hypocrisy. And frankly to taunt them.
So calling people gay in order to taunt them isn't homophobic
Either you are being disingenuous or you are just not very bright. Either way, have a nice day.
I just don't think "hurry durr they're gay for each other" should be used as an insult, and that doing so is homophobic. Have fun on 4chan.
Are you gay?
Uh oh, the person who's been claiming that being gay gives them a free pass to be homophobic for the last 2 hours is asking about my sexuality. I can imagine the "gotcha" you're waiting to spew at me if I say no.
I'm not going to answer that. It shouldn't matter. Bigotry is bigotry regardless of who's doing it, uncle ruckus. And everyone should be calling it out when they see it.
Who gets to decide what is bigotry?
Do you get to tell the subject of said suspected bigotry that they should feel offended?
Do you get to tell black people they are not allowed to use the N word?
Words are power. You better make damned sure you aren't stealing.
Societal norms
I told you no such thing. I said that you were being homophobic. The listener decides if they want to be offended or not. Judging by this thread, a bunch of people were offended. Good job I guess?
Nobody told you you weren't allowed to do anything. You started whining that they were when someone pointed out your homophobia, but nobody ever said "don't say that" or "you're not allowed to say that" or anything like that.
You really haven't thought this through, have you?
You're right, it should be up to the gay version of a living embodiment of the "as a black man..." trope to decide for everyone
Maybe if I'd give it some more thought I would have come up with a brilliant rebuttal like quoting myself at you
Don't strain yourself.
We're at unsolicited advice now? Ok, try not to be so homophobic.
