Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.
  8. All Lemmy.World Terms of Service apply.

I would be more concerned if he were less stupid. Going by his last presidency he'll spend half his time golfing and the rest driving through ineffective "red meat" policies to get attention from his base. Ultimately he's just a pathetic man who craves attention.

What concerns me more is that his destruction of political norms means that someone who is similarly evil - but actually capable - might be able to use him as a template to take power in the future and make America into a dictatorship. Someone like Xi Jinping as opposed to an aging B-list celebrity.

You should be concerned regardless. He is backed by considerably smarter people whose agenda is way worse than last time. Regardless if Trump pays attention or not the worst people will be unhindered. He isn't even a blocking element to those people taking power because Trump is at worst a rubber stamp and more likely a corpse given his age and lifestyle.

Short version, there isn't even a remote, barely visible silver lining.

Last time he had career politicians who kept his worst impulses in check.

Those people are gone now.

If anybody thinks this is going to go like last time, you are going to be in for a real shocker next year.

Someone like billionaire backed JD Vance perhaps?

Agenda 2025, is not written by trump.

He is easily manipulated.

Those wanting to effect change will have little problem.

A part of me is honestly hoping for the "he's actually in piss poor health and going to die soon" thing but his VP will be in charge and that isn't going to be much better.

Those around him are smarter this time. And now he has the senate, the house, and the supreme court on his side. We fuxked

You're not considering Trump's age and his VP who will take over.
